The one unpoplar facet of the plan is the mandate to buy insurance which, ironically is the linchpin that holds up all the popular parts of the plan. There is an easy fix to the problem, and that's Medicare (reformed and shored up) for all. But without Democrats controlling the White House, the Senate and the House this solution will never materialize.
My grandmother, Sarah Taggert Kohr Raulston, widowed with 6 children in 1936, during the Republican gifted Great Depression, always told her grandchildren that she and her children would have starved to death had it not been for FDR and the Democratic Party. I have never forgot her gratitude or failed to heed her admonishment:
"It's a mortal sin to vote Republican."
My wife Bonny and I maintain the educational website, "International Brotherhood Days,"
which is dedicated to the vision and memory of my friend Severt Young Bear Sr. Stop by for a visit.
